ABOUT
Nalinee Rughoo
Nalinee Rughoo matriculated from Verulam Secondary School in 1991. She grew up in a farming town, Verulam, on the North coast of KwaZulu Natal, where her love for reading grew. Nalinee’s father, who was an influential figure in her life, always encouraged her to follow her dreams and never give up. This unfathomable bond between father and daughter played a pivotal role in feeding her curiosity and interest in knowledge, which drove her to pursue a career in psychology.
In 1994, she attained her diploma in Analytical Chemistry from Intec College, and in 1995, received her Diploma in Psychology from Home Study College. Nalinee completed her BSc Degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia and obtained her Honours in Psychology from the University of South Africa. She completed several short courses in HIV/AIDS and a hospital course in Pastoral Counselling and Etiquette. In 2003, she registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a trauma counsellor and in 2013 as an independent Clinical Psychologist. Nalinee has a Traumatic incident Reduction certificate from Steve Biko Academic Hospital and a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Africa. After completing her training in clinical psychology from the University of South Africa, she entered into an internship at 1 Military Hospital and did the rounds at neurology and psychiatry wards. While working in the Steve Biko Academic Hospital as part of her community service, Nalinee was met with various family and psychopathology challenges that she took on fearlessly.
